Fishing for
the big catch

The Abacos, Bahamas

Fisherman walking Fisherman walking

Mention “The Shootout” and avid sports fishermen begin fastening bait to hooks. Every year, their vessels converge on The Abacos in search of king predators. The blue marlin, a worthy challenge, is considered the crown of game fishing. To be successful, captain, angler, and mate must be in tune with each other. This is high-stakes fishing, after all. A competition against the world’s best.

The Sea
of Abaco

The Abacos are privileged. Located along major migration routes, these waters make for some of the best fishing in the world. Just 30 minutes out to the Sea of Abaco, the seabed drops a whopping 5,000 feet, placing anglers in close proximity to sailfish, marlin, and wahoo.

A catch worth fighting for

Stories of fishermen fighting a marlin for days aren’t uncommon.
In fact, fish weighing upward of 200lbs are a frequent occurrence,
and when your hooks are in, that’s when the dance begins.
The captain reverses so the angler doesn’t tire; give a little line, and he eases the boat forward some. Whatever the fish does, the captain adjusts accordingly. One misstep and the angler loses a potential winning catch.
