Islands ofUnspoiled Beauty

Acklins & Crooked Island remain almost as natural today as they were hundreds of years ago. Separated by a 500-square-mile lagoon known as the Bight of Acklins, both islands are a haven for boating, bonefishing, snorkeling, and diving.

The Lay Of The Land

This small atoll includes the islands of Acklins, Crooked Island and Long Cay, wrapped around the Bight of Acklins.

Acklins

The largest island in the group, Acklins remains relatively untouched. Private and domestic flights service the regional Spring Point Airport found here.

Crooked Island

Though secluded, Crooked Island is reachable by air, via the Colonel Hill Airport, or by twice-daily ferries from Acklins.

Long Cay

The quietest island of the group, Long Cay is only 8 sq miles and can be reached only by private boat or the daily ferry from neighboring Acklins.

The Highlights The Bight of Acklins

Acklins & Crooked Island curve around a 1,000 square foot lagoon known as The Bight. The water here is shallow, often no deeper than knee-height, even 5 miles off-shore. The conditions are an angler’s dream.

The Highlights Quiet Seclusion

The islands in this atoll — Acklins, Crooked Island, Long Cay — are unspoiled, sparsely populated, and mostly undisturbed. A visit here proves a perfectly secluded getaway.

These secluded islands have a long history. Pompey Bay Beach in Acklins is the site of one of the largest Lucayan settlements in The Bahamas. Ten ancient Lucayan sites have been unearthed by National Geographic Society Archeologists in Samana Cay alone.

The Highlights Sleepy Long Cay

The tiny “sister island” of Long Cay was originally called “Fortune Island” by Christopher Columbus. Once a major trading post, it’s now a sleepy town with a handful of residents.
