Cecilia Strachan was appointed to the post of Permanent Secretary at the Ministry of Tourism, Investments & Aviation in February 2024.

Ms. Strachan began her career in the Public Service as a Trainee Librarian at the Learning Resources Unit of the Ministry of Education and later transitioned to administrative work in the public sector where she has served with distinction for over 42 years. Ms. Strachan utilised the knowledge and skills accrued from her educational and professional background to implement and foster systemic changes in various government agencies, including the Department of Public Personnel; Ministry of Youth, Sports and Culture; Ministry of Social Services; Ministry of National Security; Ministry of Labour and the Office of the Attorney-General.

Prior to her appointment at the Ministry of Tourism, Investments & Aviation, Ms. Strachan served as Permanent Secretary at the Ministry of Immigration and National Insurance where she had oversight of all administrative portfolios.

Ms. Strachan spent her early childhood years in Bimini in the 1960’s. In 1970, she relocated to New Providence where she enrolled in St. John’s College at the age of nine. In 1981, she achieved a Bachelor’s Degree in English Literature and French from the University of The West Indies at Cave Hill, Barbados.

Ms. Strachan’s passion for people and seeing them succeed propelled her to pursue a specialisation in Human Resources Management. She believes that there is meaningful work to be done in public administration and remains steadfast in her dedication to nation building through public service. Her recent appointment as Permanent Secretary at the Ministry of Tourism, Investments & Aviation marked her eighth appointment to a Government Ministry.

Ms. Strachan is a member of the St. Matthew’s Anglican Sunrise Choir and the Anglican Church Women (ACW). She also serves as a member of the C.I. Gibson Senior High School Board.
